If Infected after 1st vaccine done, 2nd dose to be deferred by 3 months: Union Health Ministry

Based on a recommendation made by the National Group of Vaccine Administration (NEGVAC) for Covid-19, the Union Health Ministry announced on Wednesday that the if a person is infected by Coronavirus after the 1st dose of vaccine, the 2nd dose would be deferred by 3 months following the ‘clinical recovery from COVID-19 illness’.

The recommendations are based on more than 20 lakh COVID-19 tests conducted all over the country in a span of 24 hours.

The communication is sent to all the States and Union Territories, Centre said and directed the concerned officials to take note of these recommendations and take necessary action for effective implementation.

Government added that COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all lactating women. However, vaccination for pregnant women the matter is under discussion and further deliberation by National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI).
