India became No.1 in ICC T20 with 3-0 win over WI

Guwahati: Team India booked the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I team rankings for the first time in six years after defeating West Indies with 3-0 in Kolkata on Sunday.

With this achievement, India surpassed former T20 World Champions England who had 269 rating points to take the top spot.

From February 12, 2016, until May 3, 2016, India was No. 1 in the format under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s leadership. They lost their last match in the 2021 T20 World Cup group stage against New Zealand before going on to win the following three games against Afghanistan, Namibia, and Scotland.

After Virat Kohli stepped down as captain after the T20 World Cup in 2021, Rohit Sharma led India to series victories over New Zealand and the West Indies, guiding the team to nine consecutive wins in T20 cricket.
