Indian Army pays tribute to soldiers killed in Arunachal avalanche
Guwahati: The Indian Army paid elaborate tributes on Saturday to the seven Army personnel who were hit by an avalanche in a high-altitude area of the Kameng sector in Arunachal Pradesh.
Indian Army Havildar Jugal Kishore, RFN Arun Kattal, RFN Akshay Pathania, RFN Vishal Sharma, RFN Rakesh Singh, RFN Ankesh Bhardwaj, and GNR (TA) Gurbaz Singh, who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, were garlanded at Tezpur Air Force Station, the Indian Army said in a release.
A wreath-laying ceremony was placed on Saturday at Tezpur Air Force Station of Assam where General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen Ravin Khosla, and other military authorities paid their tributes to the brave hearts.
Wreaths were laid on the graves of Havildar Jugal Kishore, Rifleman Arun Kattal, Rifleman Akshay Pathania, Rifleman Vishal Sharma, Rifleman Rakesh Singh, Rifleman Ankesh Bhardwaj, and Garner (TA) Gurbaj Singh, all of whom died in the line of duty.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the soldiers’ lifeless remains were sent to their native regions in the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir: Akhnoor, Kathua, Dharkalan, Bajinath, Kangra, Ghamarwin, and Batala.
“The Bravehearts were part of a patrol party that was hit by an avalanche on February 6, 2022, in a high-altitude area of Kameng sector of Arunachal Pradesh,” the Indian Army stated.
It may be mentioned that on February 6, the brave hearts were part of a patrol squad that was struck by an avalanche in the high-altitude Kameng sector of Arunachal Pradesh. Search and rescue operations began right once, with specialised teams being airlifted in.
However, on February 9, the rescue teams recovered their dead brothers in severe weather conditions, exhibiting the highest level of brotherhood and esprit-de-corps, in an area with treacherous terrain and high peaks at an altitude of 14,500 feet.
