Indian Women’s Hockey Team defeats South Africa By 7-0

Guwahati: The Indian Women’s Hockey Team following a stellar performance in their initial match on Monday, defeated South Africa by 7-0 in their second match of the South Africa Tour today in Cape Town.

The visitors have been in outstanding form thus far in this competition riding the wave of their recent win at the FIH Women’s Nations Cup.

They won 5-1 to start the season and on Tuesday they continued that trend with a goal by Udita in the ninth minute.

In the second quarter, the group captained by goalie Savita increased the pressure on South Africa by putting together some effective offensive combinations. India’s second goal was scored in the 22nd minute by Vaishnavi Vithal Phalke who made her international debut for the Senior Women’s team on Monday in their opening game.

Following that, veteran forward Rani who is making her comeback after nearly six months since playing her last match during the FIH Hockey Pro League in 2022, hit a spectacular field goal. She had also scored the game’s opening goal for India. By the end of the second quarter, India’s early 3-0 lead had grown to a 6-0 advantage.

Sangita Kumari, Navneet Kaur and Vandana Katariya all scored goals in the 25th, 26th and 27th minutes of the game, respectively. India was in a raging mood which left South Africa’s defence in need of improvement.

Even though there were no goals scored in the third quarter, India ended the game with Vandana scoring her second goal of the game in the 58th minute.
