J&K: Militant killed in police encounter in Shopian

 Shopian (Jammu&Kashmir): A militant was killed in an encounter with security troops in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, the deceased was identified as Muneeb Ahmed Sheikh of Shopian, had been missing since January 2022, was identified as the deceased.

Sheikh, according to investigators, was a member of the terrorist organisation Laskar-e-Taiba.

According to a police official, security forces conducted a cordon and search operation in the Turkwangam area of Shopian district and South Kashmir during the night after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there.

According to him, the search operation devolved into a shootout as terrorists opened fire on the forces.

According to the report, a jihadist was killed in the ensuing firefight.

Meanwhile, security officers in Jammu’s Kishtwar district have discovered numerous detonators in an abandoned house near the district’s entry point.

It may be mentioned that working on a tip off on the presence of explosives in the town, a join search operation was carried out by the army and police in Malipeth town. During the search, the team recovered around 20kgs of commercial grade explosives, cash amounting to Rs 1,20,000 and mobile phones from the house of a person named Md Hussain.

The recovered items have been confiscated and further investigation is in progress.
