Kamrup Metropolitan District Enforces Dry Day Ahead of Meghalaya Polls

Guwahati, 16th April: As Meghalaya gears up for the first phase of polling on April 19, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Magistrate has announced a Dry Day in the district as a precautionary measure.

The prohibition, effective from 4 pm on April 17 until the conclusion of polling, entails a complete ban on the consumption, supply, and sale of liquor throughout the district. Both wholesale and retail liquor outlets will remain closed during this period.

The district administration has underscored the importance of strict compliance with these regulations, warning of consequences for any individual or establishment found violating the imposed restrictions. Violators will be subject to appropriate actions under Section 135(c) of the People’s Representatives Act, 1951, and the Excise Act.

The enforcement of the Dry Day aims to maintain peace and order during the electoral process, ensuring a conducive environment for free and fair polling in Meghalaya.
