Karnataka: Govt provides ‘Y’ category security to judges who passed Hijab verdict
Guwahati: Karnataka High Court judges who passed verdict on the hijab would be granted ‘Y’ category security.
After receiving death threats, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced on Sunday that the three judges who issued the hijab ruling will be granted ‘Y’ category protection.
“We’ve decided to assign all three judges who ruled on the Hijab a ‘Y’ category security rating. I have directed the Director-General and Inspector-General to properly investigate the complaint lodged in Vidhanasoudha Police Station alleging that certain people threatened the judges’ lives “Bommai said this while speaking to reporters outside his Bengaluru home.
Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi is one of the three judges. The three-judge bench included Justices Krishna Dixit and Khazi M, in addition to the Chief Justice.
Three people have been charged with threatening the judges, according to Bommai.
Bommai condemned the incident, saying, “Being pro-communalism is not the same as being pro-secularism. This is something I strongly oppose, and we should all stand together. This will be condemned by the government.”
The Karnataka High Court dismissed several petitions contesting a ban on hijab at educational institutions on Tuesday, stating that wearing a hijab is not an essential Islamic religious practise.
It may be mentioned that three Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) members were arrested in Tamil Nadu for allegedly making insulting statements about the Karnataka high court’s hijab ruling.
