Lionel Messi wishes to leave Barcelona, asks the club to terminate his contract

Barcelona’s forward and Argentine striker Lionel Messi has asked the Barcelona board to terminate his contract as he no longer wants to play for the Spanish Club. The 33-year-old Argentine striker Messi has reportedly sent a letter to the club, asking them to allow him to activate a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer.

The current contract of Lionel Messi expires in 2021 but the last contract that he signed with the club in 2017 allows him to leave for free but according to reports Barcelona has to pay 700 million euros as a release deal. After a humiliating  8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals in Lisbon 12 days ago has brought dark future for Messi in the Catalian club as this was the first time when Barcelona had conceded eight goals in a game since losing to Sevilla 8-0 in the 1946 Spanish Cup.
