Maharashtra CM detained by Mumbai Police

Guwahati: Former Maharashtra CM and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was detained by Mumbai police on Wednesday for allegedly taking part in a protest demanding for the resignation of NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik.

According to reports, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Malik in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim.

The ED case is based on an FIR by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The case was filed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act by the ED (UAPA).

While being held by police, Fadnavis was spotted waving the BJP flag from the police jeep.

According to national media reports, Fadnavis and other politicians, including Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil are being escorted to the Azad Maidan Police Station. Pravin Darekar, Ashish Shelar, Girish Mahajan, Nitish Rane, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and Niranjan Davkare are among the names on the list.

It needs to mentioned that Malik’s resignation has been refused by the MVA administration, citing a vengeance by central investigating authorities.

Sharad Pawar, the NCP’s supremo, even said that Malik was being linked to terrorist Dawood Ibrahim because he is a Muslim.
