Manipur drivers suspend passengers & goods service on Imphal-Moreh route

Guwahati: Drivers who transported people and products along the Imphal-Moreh route on Monday ceased their operations in protest over the alleged murder of passenger driver Yanglem Priyobrata, whose body was found in Nagaland on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, Khundrakpam Binodkumar, a member of the All Imphal-Moreh Drivers Union, informed that Priyobrata who hails from Nachou Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district was allegedly hired by a man identified as Heisnam James for travelling to Dimapur on December 30, 2022, and had been missing ever since.

Notably, his body was found in Kisama of Nagaland on January 7, 2023.

The driver union fiercely denounced the incident and asked that those responsible for the tragedy receive the death penalty.

Meanwhile, Heisnam James has been detained by the police in connection with the case.

“We driver union from Imphal-Moreh road service strongly condemn the brutal killing of Yanglem Priyobrata…we want to capital punish the culprit Heisnam James,” said a representative of the union.
