Northeast, August 14 — Thiyam Akuvan, an avionics engineer from Imphal, has introduced a groundbreaking innovation in assistive technology with the launch of INSIGHTS, a wearable device designed to empower visually impaired individuals. The device has already garnered national recognition for its innovative features and user-centric design.
INSIGHTS stands out in the field of assistive technology by adhering to Universal Design principles, ensuring its accessibility and ease of use. The device offers a range of functions, including text reading, object detection, and navigation assistance, making it an invaluable tool for those with visual impairments.
The impact of Akuvan’s work has been widely acknowledged, with Akumen AI, the company behind INSIGHTS, receiving accolades from prestigious institutions. The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) recently honored Akumen AI at the NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards, recognizing its significant contribution to creating affordable and practical solutions for the visually impaired.
INSIGHTS has also been recognized by NITI Aayog and the Entrepreneurship World Cup Eastern Regional India, and was showcased by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Startup Mahakumbh, highlighting the device’s potential to transform lives.
