Manipur: N Biren Singh to take oath as CM today

Guwahati: Senior BJP leader N Biren Singh who has been elected leader of the legislature party in Manipur on Sunday, will take oath as Chief Minister of the state for second time in a series on Monday at 3 pm.

In a meeting attended by the party’s central observers, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday, Singh was elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislature party.

Earlier Singh was in  Delhi ahead of the BJP’s state legislature party convention and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

In the recently ended Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party won an absolute majority with 32 seats in the 60-member House, retaining control in the state. The NPP won seven seats, while the Congress won five. The Naga People’s Front received five seats, while the Kuki People’s Alliance received two. Three seats were won by independents.

It may be mentioned that since the BJP won an absolute majority in the state for the first time, leaders have been discussing the government formation in Manipur.
