Manipur: Protestors Block Roads, Express Disapproval Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Programme in Imphal

Northeast Desk, 15th April: Women in Imphal, Manipur, took to the streets, blocking roads and obstructing vehicles heading towards Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s programme on April 15.

Burning tyres and barricading roads, women groups aimed to prevent attendance at Shah’s election campaign event.

Prior to Shah’s arrival, protests erupted in parts of Imphal West and Imphal East, with demonstrators expressing their dissent.

In the Lamlong area of Imphal East District, protestors checked vehicles to deter participation in a BJP public gathering at Hapta Kangjeibung.

Similar demonstrations occurred in New Checkon, Imphal East district, where roads were blocked and tyres set ablaze.

Despite opposition, security personnel managed to maintain order, with no major incidents reported.

One protestor conveyed disappointment over Shah’s visit amid an ongoing crisis in the state, criticizing it as politically motivated rather than aimed at addressing the present challenges.

While some oppose Shah’s visit, thousands attended the public meeting, with some women even lining the roadsides to welcome him.
