Massive Drug Bust Near India-Myanmar Border: Rs 68 Crore Worth of Methamphetamine Seized
Aizawl, Mizoram: In a significant blow to drug trafficking, the Mizoram Police, in collaboration with the Assam Rifles, successfully seized a massive haul of methamphetamine tablets worth an estimated Rs 68 crore near the India-Myanmar border in Champhai district.
Acting on credible intelligence, security forces launched a coordinated operation in the remote Zokhawthar village. During the operation, they observed a suspicious individual crossing the Tiau river with a bulky bag. When challenged, the suspect fled towards the Myanmar border, abandoning the bag.
Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain 22.6 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets. The seized contraband has been handed over to the state police for further investigation and legal action.
This seizure comes on the heels of another major operation conducted by the Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles last week. In Serchhip district, security forces intercepted a vehicle and seized six 12-bore single-barrel rifles. One individual was apprehended in connection with this incident.
These successful operations highlight the relentless efforts of the security forces in combating drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling along the India-Myanmar border.
