Massive Rally in Arunachal And Demand For Revocation of MoU Over Border Dispute
National Desk, 5 May: Tirap Changlang and Longding Peoples Forum (TCLPF) organised a rally at Changlang Headquarters in collaboration with the aggrieved villagers of Changlang and Tinsukia District of the Arunachal-Assam conflict. The people of Changlang District, Changlang District Students Union, Tangsa Students Union and Tutsa Students Union all participated in large numbers in the rally.
The event featured more than 2000 individuals from the whole Changlang district. And all five Changlang District MLAs attended a meeting in the DC Conference Hall which was also attended by members of the ADCs, EACs, COs, ZPMs and CBOs.
According to reports, the MOU that the CMs of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh signed is not acceptable to the impacted parties. MLAs promised them that they will meet CM Pema Khandu and the committee of impacted villages very soon. Laisam Simai and S Mossang MLAs, Tesam Pongte-Dy, Speaker of the APLA, P Khimhun, Advisor to the PWD Minister, TCLPF, DSU, Community Based Students Union, AABCO and Village heads from affected villages also attended the meeting which was presided over by Sunny K Singh (IAS) of DC Changlang.
Assam and Arunachal Pradesh agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 20 to end their more than fifty-year-old border conflict. Chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu inked the agreement in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Prior to this, the governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh established regional committees to have discussions with Arunachal Pradesh over interstate border disputes with the neighbouring state. In this regard, the regional committees have recently held multiple rounds of discussions.
