Meghalaya Election: NPP Releases Manifesto, Promises 5 Lakh Jobs

Guwahati: Meghalaya’s ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has promised to create 5,000 jobs over the next five years if it remains in power in the state.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma released a party manifesto called “People’s Document” in Jowai which said jobs would be created in tourism, agricultural processing and digital sectors.

“The people’s document underlines NPP’s vision to create 5 lakh jobs and employment opportunities for the youth. A special focus on entrepreneurship, tourism, agro-processing and knowledge/digital sectors in both the urban and rural areas of the state has been laid down,” the party said in a statement as reported by PTI.

“Skilling of youths has been planned through the creation of multi-sectoral skill parks, exposure trips and livelihood sectors,” it said.

The party said its primary focus is to “identify and exploit” the state’s sports potential by providing world-class facilities for grassroots sports.

“The existing programmes in this area would be enhanced to include a larger pool of talents and increased support to them,” it added.

In addition, the NPP manifesto also envisages the creation of 1,000 Prime Minister’s Facilitation Centers which will hire cadres of Village Community Facilitators (VCFs) to deliver services to the last mile to provide government services to each village.

“These cadres would be the single point of contact for the citizens with the government, providing a wide variety of services from PDS to grievance redressal and this service in itself would create thousands of jobs and ensure even the household from the remotest village of Meghalaya has access to government services,” it added.

The party also said it would continue to support farmers in the province through its major programs, adding that 13,000 farmers benefited from Mission Lacadon itself.

The party said it would build new roads and connect villages under the prime minister’s village connection plan.

The party claimed that the government built more roads in rural areas in the past five years than the previous government built in the past 20 years.

The NPP said the Prime Minister’s Affordable Medicine Center plans to provide people with affordable medicines.
