Meghalaya Govt to construct new bridge over Umiam
Guwahati: The Meghalaya Government has chosen to build a new bridge across the Umiam Lake.
Concerns over the Umiam Bridge’s diminishing lifetime prompted the statement.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the decision was made because there were no other options.
The current bridge is 57 years old, and Prestone believes it requires a “quick stitch.”
According to reports, the job has already been assigned to a consultant. An investigation of a different location near the Army’s boating centre was also carried out.
The expert also submitted a favourable report, according to the Deputy CM.
The assessment stated that building a new bridge at the inspected location was feasible.
He also informed that soil testing will take place next week, and that bridge building will commence after the final reports are received.
He further stated that the new bridge would be shorter than the current one.
