Meghalaya HR Commission Seeks Probe into Police Escort Vehicle Fatality
Shillong: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has ordered a probe into the death of Hudderfield Rymbui, a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a police escort vehicle in Ri Bhoi district on November 15.
The directive, issued on November 21, came in response to a complaint filed by Joplin Scott Shylla, President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress. The incident has triggered widespread public outrage, with citizens questioning the need for excessive speed and disregard for public safety in VIP convoys.
A candlelight vigil was held last week to mourn Rymbui’s untimely demise and demand justice. The victim’s family and friends have expressed deep sorrow and called for strict action against those responsible.
Local police have confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded and an investigation is underway. Authorities are collecting evidence and recording witness statements to build a strong case.
The incident has once again brought to light the issue of police escort vehicles and their potential hazards. As the investigation progresses, the public awaits a thorough probe and appropriate action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
