Meghalaya Police Seize 170 Litres of Illicit Liquor in Shillong Raids
Northeast Desk, 8th September: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor activities, Meghalaya police seized 170 litres of illicit liquor during coordinated raids across Shillong on September 6. The operations, conducted by the East Khasi Hills district police, targeted several key areas including Sadar, Police Bazar, Polo, Mawblei, and Madanrting.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Sylvester Nongtnger, the raids resulted in the confiscation of 70 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and 100 litres of country-made illicit liquor. The police have launched an investigation into the source and distribution network of the seized alcohol.
The raids also targeted rowdy elements to ensure public safety and maintain order. SP Nongtnger emphasized that the East Khasi Hills district police are committed to ensuring safety, security, and peace for residents and will continue their efforts against the illegal sale of liquor in the city.
