Mizoram CM Lalduhoma Casts Vote in State Amidst First Phase of Elections

Northeast Desk, 19th April: Chief Minister Lalduhoma exercised his voting right at the Chawlhhmun Govt. Comprehensive Middle School Polling Station in Aizawl, Mizoram, as part of the nationwide first phase of voting.

Formerly an Indian Police Service officer, Lalduhoma has been serving as the 6th Chief Minister of Mizoram since December 8, 2023. His political journey began after resigning from the security service under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, subsequently being elected as a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Mizoram in 1984.

However, his departure from the Indian National Congress, the party through which he was elected, led to his disqualification from parliament, marking him as the first MP to face such consequences under India’s anti-defection law.

As the electoral process unfolds nationwide, the emphasis remains on ensuring a fair and transparent election that accurately reflects the will of the people across diverse regions.
