Guwahati: Ajay Mishra, minister of State for Home Affairs on Wednesday lost his cool at journalists when he was asked about his son Ashish, who is in jail in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

Ashish Mishra, the minister’s son, is one of the 13 people charged in the October violence that murdered at least four farmers and a journalist. According to reports, Ajay Mishra has been summoned to Delhi in response to the opposition’s demand that he be fired.

A video of the minister shoving reporters and yelling insults has gone viral. The alleged video was taken when Mishra went to a hospital in Lakhimpur Kheri to dedicate a freshly built ward.

When questioned about the SIT report on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, the minister requested reporters to turn off their cameras and even seized one of the journalists’ phones.

The incident was “pre-planned,” and Ashish Mishra should face charges of attempted murder, reports claimed.

Meanwhile, the opposition has intensified its attacks on the government, calling for Ajay Mishra’s resignation. The government will have to fire the minister, according to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in order to deliver justice to the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
