Mukhroh Massacre: BJP demands resignation of M’laya Home Minister

Guwahati: Meghalaya home minister Lahkmen Rymbui has been asked on to resign by the BJP as a result of last week’s Mukroh firing tragedy, which claimed six lives.

“We have demanded the resignation of the state home minister for it is his failure. Police department comes under him and he has to take responsibility for the lapses,” Economic Times quoted BJP Meghalaya president Ernest Mawrie as saying.

A minor partner in Meghalaya’s coalition government led by the NPP is the BJP.

The Meghalaya government reinstated mobile internet and data services in seven districts of the state on Monday, seven days after the Mukroh firing incident.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday told reporters in Shillong that the state government has decided to lift the temporary suspension of mobile internet and data services in light of the general improvement in peace and order.

The Meghalaya government agreed on Monday to build border outposts in interstate boundary areas that are considered sensitive.

Chief Minister Sangma made the announcement after presiding over an all-party meeting attended by regional MLAs from Jaintia Hills districts.

A judicial commission of investigation led by Justice (retd) T Vaiphei has also been established by the government of Meghalaya to look into the November 22 shooting at Mukroh.
