Nagaland Government Takes Action Against NSCN (Khango) After Threat Incident

Northeast Desk, 4th August: The Nagaland state government has formally urged the Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) to ensure strict adherence to ceasefire ground rules (CFGR) by the NSCN (Khango) faction. This move follows a death threat issued against K. Rülho, the owner of M/S KKB Rülho, by the NSCN (Khango) group.

K.G. Kenye, the state spokesperson and Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against the NSCN (Khango) and its affiliates under relevant legal provisions. Kenye emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance stance on threats and coercion, declaring that such actions would be prosecuted as criminal offenses.

Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton supported the government’s stance, condemning the threat and highlighting the need for a secure business environment in Nagaland. Patton instructed police and district administration to ensure the safety of the business community and promote economic growth.

Civil society organizations have voiced strong opposition to the threats. The Dimapur Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) and Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), condemned the NSCN (Khango) for its intimidation tactics. They have called for the withdrawal of the death threat and urged adherence to legal and ethical standards.

The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) also criticized the death threat, urging political groups to refrain from illegal demands that disrupt business operations and undermine the Naga national movement’s principles.

In response, the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has scheduled a public rally on August 6, 2024, in Kohima to protest illegal taxation and threats. This rally has garnered support from various organizations, including the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and Sumi Youth Organization (SYO), which have denounced the violence and advocated for peaceful dialogue and resolution.
