Nagaland’s 10th NAP(IR) Battalion gets 920 coveted ASSP Medals
Guwahati: Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak (ASSP) medals were awarded to 920 members of the 10th Nagaland Armed Police (Indian Reserve) Battalion.
Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) T John Longkumer handed the awards on Thursday.
In 2018, the Ministry of Home Affairs established the ASSP for police officers who have demonstrated exceptional performance during two years of continuous duty in insurgency-affected areas.
The 9th NAP (IR) had previously obtained ASSP medals.
Nagaland Police troops are recognised as ‘Naga force’ outside the state, according to the DGP, because of the achievements of NAP (IR) battalions.
“Shabaash (bravo)…you deserve it,” he remarked, encouraging the officers to continue to shine in their work.
Vekhosa Chakhesang, the commandant of the 10th NAP (IR) Battalion, said one of the unit’s notable deployments was in West Bengal’s Purulia from 2010 to 2012 for anti-Maoist operations, during which it was successful in busting many hideouts and seizing a large number of firearms, earning praise from both the Centre and the state government.
