NEDA Failed in North East to Protest People’s Interest : Gaurav Gogoi

Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on December 19 Monday claimed that incidents on the borders of Assam and Meghalaya and Assam and Mizoram were regrettable because those states are a part of the BJP’s North East Democratic Alliance shortly NEDA is a political coalition which was formed on May 24, 2016, by Bharatiya Janata Party.

Prior to this, unrest erupted over the shooting deaths of 5 villagers by Assam police on the Meghalayan border.

Another incident occurred on July 5 in which Assam officers were killed after a gunfight with Mizoram policemen.

He said that BJP’s North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) is currently in government in all the states where there are unfortunate clashes on the border and that NEDA has become the North East Divide Alliance in the North East. “We don’t want conflict with anyone. We want everyone in the North East to live in harmony and brotherhood,” he said.

“There is no single instance in India where police force of one state is up in arms against their counterparts,” Gogoi said.

The MP further requested that the Union Home Ministry submit a standard operating procedure (SOP) to stop regrettable events like the shootout between the Mizoram and Assam police.

A political alliance known as the North-East Democratic Alliance, or NEDA, was established on May 24, 2016, by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The goal of the new political front was to bring together non-Congress parties in Northeast India while also defending the interests of the local populace.
