Guwahati: The officer in charge of the Bengtol Police Outpost in the Chirang district of Assam was suspended on Friday after it was claimed that he supported the criminals in a case of gang rape.
According to reports, a woman went to the police station to file a complaint that she had been the victim of sexual assault and abuse.
The Bengtol OC allegedly insulted her and sided with the suspects, the victim mentioned rather than looking into her complaints.
Sub-inspector (SI) Afzal Hussain has been named as the officer in question. She first approached the media after being turned away by the police yesterday and then she courted Chirang SP Pranjit Bora.
After the topic of conversation arose and quickly spread like wildfire, the Chirang SP made the decision to suspend the Bengtol OC on Friday night with immediate effect.
