PM Modi Condoles Demise of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He called UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan a “great statesman and visionary leader” who “promoted India-UAE relations.”

PM Modi remarked in a tweet, “I am profoundly grieved by the news of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed’s death. He was a visionary leader and statesman who saw India-UAE relations flourish. The people of India send their sincere condolences to the people of the UAE. May his spirit find eternal rest.”

It may be mentioned that on Friday, state news agency WAM reported the death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was also the ruler of Abu Dhabi emirate.

According to the constitution, vice-president and premier Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, would serve as president until the federal council of the seven emirates meets within 30 days to pick a new president.

Khalifa, who was born in 1948, became the ruler of the richest emirate in the world, Abu Dhabi, in 2004. His half-brother Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan is anticipated to succeed him as ruler of Abu Dhabi.
