Police Seize Over 500 Grams of Gold, Arrest Four Smugglers in Joint Operation

Guwahati, 14th September: In a joint operation, the city police and the Special Task Force (STF) in Assam conducted a successful operation on the outskirts of Guwahati, resulting in the seizure of over 500 grams of gold and the arrest of four individuals, including one woman.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Inayet Ali (30), Jannat Begum (56), and Mohammad Yusuph (38), all originally from Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The driver of the vehicle used for smuggling, Veeru Singh (27), was also taken into custody. Singh is a resident of the East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.

Acting on intelligence inputs regarding possible smuggling activity in the region, the police intercepted a vehicle with registration ‘ML 05N 8712’ and discovered original gold in coil shape weighing 518.8 grams inside.

The consignment of gold was being smuggled from Meghalaya to Rajasthan through the intercepted vehicle. The estimated market value of the seized gold is yet to be determined.

An ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details and potential connections related to this smuggling operation.
