Russia-Ukraine Conflict: US imposes sanctions on Russia

Guwahati: The Department of the U.S Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) sanctioned Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and other members of Russia’s security council for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to a statement released by the US Treasury Department the sanctions placed extraordinary diplomatic and economic consequences on Russia, isolating them from the global financial system and the world community, according to a statement released by the US Treasury Department.

According to the statement, President Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are responsible for the illegal invasion of Ukraine, a democratic sovereign state.

President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov will be sanctioned by the European Union, according to White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federations, and Valery Gerasimor, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, First Deputy Minister of Defense, and General of the Army, read a statement from the US Treasury Department appointing two additional Russian Security Council members to be held directly responsible for the Ukraine crisis.

The US Treasury Department announced in a statement that it has chosen eleven members of the Russian Security Council and will continue to impose sanctions on Russia.

According to US Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen, the US Department of Treasury will continue to impose costs on Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation, despite US President Biden’s efforts to resolve the crisis through diplomacy in order to avoid human suffering.

“We are united with our foreign allies and partners to ensure Russia pays a serious economic and diplomatic price for continuing to invade Ukraine,” Janet added. We are willing to impose further expenses on Russia if required in response to its heinous behaviour on the international scene.”
