Sikkim Faces Temporary Isolation Due to Road Closure for Repairs

Northeast Desk, 11th July: Sikkim is experiencing a temporary isolation from the rest of India as the critical Algarah-Lava road connecting it to Siliguri will remain closed for repairs until 6:00 AM on July 14, 2024. The Government of West Bengal’s Block Development Officer for Lava Development Block in Algarah, Kalimpong, announced the closure in response to severe damage along the Algarah-Lava road via Gosklusline.

An official notice issued on July 10, 2024, by the Block Development Officer stated, “It is hereby notified that the Algarah-Lava road via Gosklusline shall remain closed from 6:00 AM on July 11, 2024, until 6:00 AM on July 14, 2024, due to maintenance work by the PWD Department.” As a result, all vehicular movement along this route will be suspended during the specified period.

This closure significantly impacts a key alternative route from Sikkim and Kalimpong to Siliguri, disrupting transportation and connectivity in the region. Authorities urge travelers to plan accordingly and seek alternative routes during this period.
