Sikkim: Pakyong District Cricket Committee Hosts Successful Inter School Cricket Tournament Finals

Northeast Desk, 27th May: The Pakyong District Cricket Committee, in collaboration with the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), organized the finals of the Inter School Cricket Tournament 2024 at St Xavier’s School ground on May 27.

The event was graced by Tashi Chophel, DC Pakyong, as the chief guest, and Rinzing Chophel Rai, ASP Pakyong, as the guest of honor. In his address, DC Pakyong praised the committee for creating opportunities for young students to develop their skills and gain exposure. He highlighted the importance of girls’ involvement in sports and commended their coaches for their dedication. Additionally, he encouraged students to showcase their talents and aim for national and international competitions.

BK Dhamala, DFO Social Forestry cum President of Pakyong District Cricket Committee, expressed gratitude for the committee’s support and shared his aspirations for the young players. Sonam Palden Bhutia, senior coach at SICA, emphasized SICA’s efforts in fostering children’s overall development, enhancing their interpersonal skills, and strengthening relationships among peers and teachers. He assured that the association would continue to support the children’s upliftment in every aspect.

The day featured two final matches in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. In the girls’ category, Amba Secondary School faced Rangpo Senior Secondary School. Amba SS won the toss and batted first, setting a score of 51 runs. Despite a strong effort, Rangpo SSS fell short by 2 runs. In the boys’ category, Rhenock Senior Secondary School played against St Xavier’s School. Rhenock SSS batted first, scoring 130 runs, and won the match by 12 runs as St Xavier’s School could not match the target.

Normit Lepcha from Amba SS and Bitu Kumar Shah from Rhenock SSS were declared the players of the match in their respective categories.

The event saw the presence of BP Sharma, JD Education; Father Francis Banerjee, Principal of St Xavier’s School, along with dignitaries from various departments, officials from SICA, coaches, and the general public. The matches were officiated by umpires Pramod Kr Singh and Data Ram Regi, with Neela Rai and Karma Thilay Bhutia serving as scorers.
