Guwahati: The Jorhat Police has arrested at least six persons in connection with the Nimatighat-Majuli boat accident that claimed that lives of at least two persons leaving more that 80 injured.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jogen Das, Dhanbar Das, Biju Kumar Das, Jayanta Dutta, Binod Baruah and Babul Neog. All of the arrested are linked with the movement of private ferries plying over the route on the Brahmaputra river. They have been prosecuted under charges of murder as the accident allegedly took place due to their “gross negligence”. The police have filed criminal cases against the accused persons.
It may be mentioned that on September 8, a boat accident took place on the Nimatighat-Majuli route which resulted in the confirmed death of two teachers while one doctor is still reported missing.
However, the NDRF and SDRF are still trying to trace the last missing person identified to be a doctor.
