Sonowal and his new Journey

Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will now be known as Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Ayush.
Sonowal who was the Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021, had been in discussions after there were reports that in 2021, he gave up the Chief Minister’s seat for Himanta Biswa Sarma.

After the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly elections took place, there was confusion on the issue if Sarbananda Sonowal would still remain a Chief Minister but later on, with discussions being held with the central leaders, it was announced that Himanta Biswa Sarma will be the new Assam Chief Minister.

Sarbananda Sonowal has won the elections from Majuli assembly constituency two times and he had also served as the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; and Sports and Youth Affair before becoming the CM.

However, after Sarma was crowned the new Chief Minister, there were discussions regarding Sarbananda Sonowal and what new role he might be given by the BJP’s central leadership. Amidst the discussions, Sonowal was summoned to Delhi and according to predictions, he was given a cabinet role at the Narendra Modi-led central cabinet.

Sonowal is said to be very interested in politics since his childhood. When he was studying in Class IV, he was elected the Minister of Cleanliness at his school and his job was to take care of the cleanliness of the class.
