Assam Director General of Police, Mr. Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta while addressing the media persons here on Wednesday has warned of adhering to a zero tolerance policy against anyone found flouting COVID norms.
DGP further added that anyone violating the new COVID guidelines issued by the Assam Government on 12 May and found organizing a function or party will be treated as a betrayal against society and nation and will be booked under ‘Attempt to murder’ like charges.
The DGP said that the police might bound to resort to ‘lathicharge’ if people flout physical distancing norms and gather in the market places.
He also warned strict action against both shopkeepers and consumers against any ‘backdoor sale/purchase’ after the permitted time.
Also police personnel have been directed to keep a close watch on any violations of COVID norms especially in the containment zones.
