Supreme Court Extends Interim Bail for AAP Leader Satyendar Jain on Medical Grounds
National Desk, 24th July: On Monday, the Supreme Court granted a five-week extension of interim bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Minister, Satyendar Jain. He is facing allegations in an alleged money laundering case and sought an extension on medical grounds.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Jain, requested the extension, informing the court about Jain’s recent spine surgery and the need for time to recover. However, Addition Solicitor General SV Raju emphasized the necessity of an independent evaluation, claiming that Jain does not require hospitalization.
The apex court has scheduled the matter for further hearing on August 21.
Previously, the court had granted Jain interim bail on medical grounds from May 26 until July 11, after he was hospitalized following an incident in Delhi’s Tihar Jail where he fell in the bathroom on May 25.
It should be noted that Jain was arrested in May 2022 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by the Enforcement Directorate.
The allegations against Jain revolve around his acquisition of movable properties in the name of various individuals between February 14, 2015, and May 31, 2017, for which he could not provide satisfactory explanations.
