Tension Escalated After firing incident Reported outside NDPP candidate’s residence In Nagaland

Guwahati: Political tension continues to remain present outside Moatoshi’s residence in Indisen, the NDPP candidate for Dimapur-II after conflicts between NDPP and LJP supporters on the evening of February 18.

CCTV footage found at Moatashi’s home shows 8 automobiles pulling up to the scene and thugs firing 6-7 rounds of ammunition.

Six empty shells were reportedly found at the location. A suo motu case has been filed in the meantime against the criminals.

An eerie calm has descended upon the region following the fights between NDPP and LJP supporters.

On the other side, with elections quickly approaching, new incidents of pre-poll violence have tarnished Nagaland’s ongoing election campaign.

Taking to Twitter, Vikheho condemned the incident and urged the people to maintain peace for a free and fair election. “I condemn the violence between my supporters & Shri. Moatoshi supporters at Indisen Village. The untoward incident was uncalled for. I appreciate my supporters for not retaliating & escalating the situation.I urge upon the supporters to ensure peaceful, free & fair election”, tweeted Vikheho.

The resulting altercation between supporters of the two parties resulted in several workers being injured and vehicles being damaged. An investigation has been launched to find out what caused the altercation.

In a statement to the media, DCP Dimapur stated that after receiving information, a police team responded to the area and discovered three empty cases of.32 bore ammunition outside the residence of incumbent MLA and NDPP candidate Moatoshi.

He verified that the fight involved LJP (RV) candidates and NDPP supporters.

The DCP also stated that a few vehicles belonging to LJP (RV) candidate supporters were destroyed, and that two people suffered minor injuries.

According to the police, the situation has been under control and an investigation is ongoing.
