Guwahati: Manipur police intercepted a massive consignment of brown sugar worth over Rs 85 lakhs in the state’s Jiribam district on Monday.
Police officials have taken three people into custody on charges of smuggling in connection with the seizure.
The recovered narcotics weighed roughly 1.037 kg and are valued over Rs 85 lakhs in international markets, police informed.
Meanwhile, the three persons detained in connection with the incident identified as Sevan Raja, Debashish Paul and Athoi Chiru.
According to officials, the police had set up a normal roadblock on national route 37 at Leingangpokpi.
During the operation, a vehicle with the registration numbers MN 01 AG 0671 was intercepted by the police officials.
On checking the vehicle, the drugs were recovered.
Following the incident, the persons involved were immediately taken into custody and consignment was seized, police added.
Police officials further added that the detained individuals will be questioned and an investigation has been initiated in the matter.
