Tipra Motha Leader Calls for Diplomatic Engagement Amid Bangladesh Crisis
Northeast Desk, 6th August: Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma, leader of the Tipra Motha party, has urged the Government of India to engage in dialogue with the interim government of Bangladesh to prevent further attacks on minorities and indigenous communities in the neighboring country.
In a Facebook post, Pradyot emphasized the need for careful diplomacy and avoidance of provocative statements, given the rising violence against minorities in Bangladesh. He expressed confidence that the Indian government would take the necessary steps to address the situation.
“I am sure the Government of India will have a conversation with whoever takes over the interim government in Bangladesh. We must also be careful to avoid making provocative statements,” Pradyot stated.
On August 5, Pradyot discussed the situation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured him of robust border protection measures. Amit Shah reportedly emphasized that no illegal influx from Bangladesh would be permitted and instructed security forces to maintain vigilance.
Pradyot has previously called for a ‘Plan B’ from the Central government, citing concerns that the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh could impact India’s border states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and West Bengal. He warned that these states might be directly affected by developments in Bangladesh and urged preparedness for any potential fallout.
“Tripura, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam will be on the front line of any fallout from the crisis in Bangladesh. The Government of India must have a contingency plan ready,” Pradyot added.
