Tripura: 24 Rohingyas held in Unakoti

Guwahati: At least twenty-four suspected Rohingyas immigrants have been detained form Unakoti district of Tripura on Monday evening.

The detainees include ten children among those.

Acting on a tip-off, BSF intercepted three cars at Jiturdighipar check-gate.

According to reports, they were on the way from Kumarghat to Kailashahar.

As per the Superintendent Police Kishore Debbarma said, “On suspicion, all the suspected Rohingya immigrants were detained and taken to Kailashahar police station for interrogation. In the course of the interrogation, three people showed their refugee cards issued by the United Nations,”

Debbarma further said that because they had UN-issued cards and no unfavourable reports, they will be released according to the rules.

They travelled by train from Jammu to Kumarghat via Kolkata and Guwahati, Debbarma informed.

When asked where they intend to go, they stated that they have no idea, Debbarma added.

It may be mentioned that the suspected Rohingyas had planned to cross over to Bangladesh through the international border at Kailashahar.
