Tripura: Attacks against Congress’ election campaign’s LED vehicles, party raises fingers at BJP

Guwahati: While political violence has already plagued Tripura, the state is currently gripped by election fever. In the most recent instance, LED vehicles used by the Congress to campaign in Tripura were allegedly damaged on January 15 in the Sidhai Mohanpur area of Agartala.

Szarita Laitphlang, a national secretary and AICC representative for Tripura, claims that BJP attackers looted automobiles in addition to attacking them and smashing their LEDs and windscreens.

Speaking to the reporters, the AICC in charge further stated that Congress has filed a police report after identifying the Scooty (2-wheeler) used by the attackers.

”The Election Commission of India should look into the matter and Opposition parties should also be allowed to campaign in Tripura,” she added.

It should be noted that on January 3 at Jamjuri in the Udaipur subdivision of the Gomati District, some CPI(M) miscreants allegedly set fire to the ancestral home of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

According to reports, Deb’s ancestral home was also burned down during the incident. At the time the story was being written, an official source had not, however, confirmed the news.

As per BJP insiders, the attack was carried out by criminals with communist support one day before yearly rites in honour of Deb’s late father, Hirudhan Deb.

BJP further added that there would be puja on this occasion in the presence of local and visiting saints.

Notably, the attack took place just after CPI (M) MLA Ratan Bhowmik conducted an organisational meeting nearby.

However, Police officials reported that after several party flags were destroyed, one shop and a few vehicles were burned and trashed.
