Tripura: BJP-IPFT To Finalise Alliance By January 2023
Guwahati: Even though there are many speculations that the BJP would keep its alliance with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), the current BJP-IPFT government in Tripura is expected to make its final decision by January 2023.
However party leaders of IPFT are hoping for an optimistic outcome after the party’s Central Committee meeting that is scheduled to be held in the first week of January, even though party members are happy with the current formation.
Speaking to the media about the party’s election preparedness and the likelihood that it will continue its political alliance with the BJP, IPFT spokesperson Amit Debbarma said that the central committee of the party will assess the party’s election preparedness at its meeting that is scheduled to take place in the following months. “In all likelihood, the alliance will continue in the next polls as well,” added Debbarma.
Due to defections and defeat in the TTAADC elections, IPFT has experienced substantial political and electoral failures in the last four years despite being in power.
The IPFT’s support base in the hills was eroded by the emergence of TIPRA Motha in Tripura’s tribal region, putting the party in danger of disintegrating.
But the party still believes it has a place in state politics and the future elections, where IPFT might be very crucial.
“TIPRA and IPFT have similar political demands, but I believe there are some differences. The IPFT maintains its demand for Tipraland with the TTAADC territorial area. TIPRA, on the other hand, is now attempting to reach out to non-tribal areas. They have a non-tribal frontal wing as well. So, we think they have already started to rethink their demands; at least their political action indicates so,” added Debbarma.
