Tripura: Tipra Motha Leader Urges Central Government to Prepare for Bangladesh Crisis

Northeast Desk, 5th August: Amid fresh protests and escalating violence in Bangladesh, Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma has called on the Central government to develop a ‘Plan B’ to address the potential impacts on the bordering states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and West Bengal. The leader emphasized that these states would be on the front line of any fallout from the Bangladesh crisis.

Earlier today, the Indian government issued a travel advisory urging nationals to avoid traveling to Bangladesh until further notice, citing the “quite grave” situation. Taking to the microblogging site X, Pradyot highlighted the growing anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh, likening it to the situation in the Maldives.

“Tripura, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam will be frontline of anything that occurs there. Government of India must have a plan B in case something happens now or in the future,” Pradyot wrote.

He also stressed the importance of empowering indigenous people as a means of defense. “Reports coming to us from Bangladesh is that Situation is quite grave in the country. The Government of India should prepare and empower the indigenous people within India,” he tweeted.

Pradyot underscored the necessity of maintaining internal security, expressing concerns about the stability of Bangladesh post-Sheikh Hasina. “We respect and admire Sheikh Hasina but life after her will not be good for internal security,” he stated.

The violence in Bangladesh has claimed at least 98 lives, including 14 police officers, and left hundreds wounded. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released an official statement on August 4, advising Indian citizens residing in Bangladesh to exercise extreme caution and minimize their movements.

“Given the current developments, Indian nationals are strongly advised against traveling to Bangladesh until further notice,” the MEA stated. “All Indian nationals presently in Bangladesh are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movements, and stay in contact with the High Commission of India in Dhaka through their emergency phone numbers: 8801958383679, 8801958383680, and 8801937400591.”
