Uttarakhand Election Results: BJP leads in 44 Assembly Constituencies

Guwahati: As the counting for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections is underway, results indicate that the BJP is leading assembly constituencies.

Congress is also trailing in the state. The results will be declared today with counting beginning from 8 am. Uttarakhand had a single-phase election on February 14th.

The ruling BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fought it out for the 70 seats in the Uttarakhand assembly, with a voter turnout of 65.4 percent in the state.

Though exit polls forecast a hung house, with the Congress and the BJP fighting tooth and nail for a majority of 36 seats, the BJP has taken the lead as counting continues in the state.

According to trends at 11:40 am, BJP leads in 44 seats while the Congress is leading in 22 seats. On the other hand, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is leading in one seat.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat expressed optimism in his party’s victory in the state, claiming that by securing a majority, his party will be able to build a good and stable government.
