Punjab Election Results: AAP leads in 79 seats
Guwahati: As the counting is underway for the Punjab Assembly elections underway, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had crossed the majority mark with 79 seats in the 117 Punjab Assembly as of 9.45 am.
After the results of the second round of counting, Congress’ Navjot Singh Sidhu was in second place, Siromani Akali Dal (SAD)’s Bikram Majithia was in third place in Patiala Assembly constituency, and Punjab Lok Congress leader and former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh was in fourth place.
Charanjit Singh Channi was trailing Chamkaur Sahib, according to the Election Commission’s report. According to EC data, Congress had 14 votes, followed by SAD with 7.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Punjab Congress chairman, was in second place in the Amritsar East constituency, trailing AAP’s Jeevan Jotbkaur.
Counting for 117 assembly seats in Punjab began at 8 a.m. across the state on Thursday.
On Monday, exit polls indicated a convincing victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, with the magnitude of the party’s triumph differing between surveys.
According to national media reports, AAP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Dhuri is decked with flowers ahead of the counting, while Jalebi making has begun even before the counting has commenced.
