Guwahati: Jorhat Police are facing intense scrutiny after allegations of corruption surfaced within the Assam Police force.
Sources claim that officers from Jorhat Sadar Police station have been demanding money from accused individuals in exchange for their release.
Reports indicate that the police allegedly sought Rs 8,000 to secure the release of eight individuals, leading to public outrage and calls for swift accountability. The incident has raised concerns about the integrity of the police force in the region.
In response to the allegations, the constable involved in the incident, as well as the Incharge Officer (IO), have been suspended with immediate effect. Jorhat Police confirmed the suspensions through a post, adding that further disciplinary proceedings have been initiated to address the issue. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
