Women Voters Lead Turnout in First Phase of Lok Sabha Elections in Assam

Guwahati, 19th April: In the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Assam, women voters have surpassed men in turnout across all five constituencies where voting is currently underway in the first phase.


Guwahati witnessed a notable surge in women voters, demonstrating their eagerness to exercise their democratic right. From as early as 5 am, women queued outside polling stations, displaying their determination to cast their votes before resuming their daily routines.


The significant presence of women in the electoral process is evident from the numbers. Out of the total voters in these five constituencies, there are 43,64,859 women compared to 42,82,887 men. Additionally, 123 voters identify as the third gender, showcasing the diverse demographics participating in the elections.


The constituencies where voting is currently underway include Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat, representing a diverse cross-section of Assam’s population. The enthusiastic turnout of women voters highlights their active role in shaping the political landscape of the state.


As voting progresses in these constituencies, the priority remains on ensuring a fair, transparent, and inclusive electoral process that accurately reflects the will of the people of Assam.
