Yoga Day | Why is June 21 Special?

Guwahati: June 21 is observed as International Yoga Day and though yoga saw its origin in India, it is celebrated internationally.
But why is June 21 celebrated as International Yoga Day?

It is because June 21 is the longest day of the whole year and this means that the time from sunrise to sunset is the maximum on this day. It is said that during this day the sun brings its position in Dakshinayana, which is considered most useful for Yoga and spirituality.

Origin of Yoga
The Origin of Yoga is believed to be from India itself. The history of yoga in India is said to be about 2000 years old. Swami Vivekananda started Yoga in India a long time ago.

The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated in the country and across the world on June 21, 2015 as a unique display of India’s intellectual power. During the first observation, 37,000 people took part in at Rajpath in the national capital. Apart from that 84 Countries also participated in it, and it became a world record.

The history of yoga in India is very old. There is a lot of mention of yoga in the scriptures too. The Rigveda also gives a complete explanation of Yoga. Lots of books based on Yoga is still there in The National Museums of India.
