Zika virus alert in Assam

Guwahati: After an increase in Zika virus cases in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Assam has issued an alert about a possible Zika virus spread in the state.

The state health department has ordered all district health officials to test suspected Zika-infected patients who have arrived from areas where the new sickness has sparked concern in the country.

As per the reports, the districts had already been told to submit suspected Zika infection patients with a two-week travel history from Kerala and Pune.

It was further reported that Assam has formed a committee to monitor Zika infection.

It may be mentioned that no cases of the Zika virus have been reported in Assam to date.

However, the state government asked people to take cautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
