AASU Leader Lynching Case: One more arrested in Guwahati
Guwahati: Assam Police arrested one more accused of the AASU leader lynching case on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Sushanta Sarma and was arrested from the Paltan Bazar area of Guwahati.
It was reported that after the arrest, he has been handed over to Jorhat police for further investigation.
Sarma is one of the accused who was seen in a viral video attacking Bhuyan and his two friends Mridusmanta Baruah and Pranay Dutta at the Nirmal Chariali road of the town.
The incident took place when the leader along with his friends was helping an aged person who collapsed on the road but the mob misinterpreted the situation and attacked the trio without knowing the truth.
In the incident, Animesh sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to hospital but was declared brought dead while his two friends are undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
Earlier the Jorhat Police arrested 14 accused who were involved in the Animesh Bhuyan mob lynching case including the prime accused of the case Niraj Das alias Kola Lora. With this arrest by the Assam Police, the total count of arrested persons reached 15.
However, the next day of his arrest, Niraj was killed in an accident while he was trying to fly from the police custody.
