Arunachal: Massive Mega Rally in Tezu Boosts BJP Support Ahead of State Assembly Polls

Northeast Desk, 14th April: Tezu town witnessed a massive mega rally, brimming with energy and enthusiasm, as Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Election Incharge Ashok Singhal, Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Arunachal CM Pema Khandu, MP Tapir Gao, and other dignitaries gathered in support of Dr. Mahesh Chai, the BJP candidate for Tezu-Sunpura assembly constituency in the upcoming State Assembly polls.

Thousands of citizens flocked to Tezu to express their unwavering support for Tapir Gao, the MP candidate for Arunachal East, and Dr. Mohesh Chai, vying for the State Assembly seat from the Tezu-Sunpura constituency. This constituency holds significant importance for the Arunachal BJP government, seeking to fortify its position following a narrow defeat in the 2019 elections.

In the previous election, Dr. Mahesh Chai faced a close contest, losing by a margin of merely 150 votes to incumbent NPP MLA Karikho Kri, popularly known as Bhaiya. Tezu’s diverse population, often dubbed Mini India due to its ethnic diversity and substantial non-tribal population of 70%, adds complexity to the electoral dynamics.

The upcoming elections present a formidable challenge for Dr. Mahesh Chai as he goes head-to-head against MLA Karikho Kri, who once again represents the NPP party. The BJP party high command’s decision to initially award the ticket to Badang Tayang, only to replace him with Dr. Mahesh Chai later, sparked some confusion and criticism within the party ranks. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed this issue during the rally, highlighting the disruption caused by MLA Karikho Kri’s initial refusal to accept any ticket other than Dr. Mahesh Chai’s.

Despite the ticket controversy, the rally in Tezu demonstrated robust support for Dr. Mahesh Chai and Tapir Gao, showcasing the BJP’s determination and the fervor of its supporters to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
